Just came home from Anime Festival Asia 2013; my first time attending a relatively massive J-culture convention. Initially overwhelmed with the sights and sounds from all sorts of cosplayers and tonnes of otakus shopping and window shopping for anime merchandise. I got myself a thousand piece jigsaw from the "Shingeki no kyojin" official merchandise booth. It's actually the same picture I did a cover drawing you can find on my front page. Can't wait to put it together after my final exams in 3 weeks time! Oh yes, I also saw some really impressive anime fanart, even those that I've come across from over here in deviantart. The "Anisong" conce

https://en.rocketnews24.com/2013/09/10/ultra-realistic-kyary-pamyu-pamyu-illustration-looks-more-lifelike-than-kyary-pamyu-pamyu/ Someone shared the above link on facebook, which caught my attention. My prescribed readings for school has officially kicked in (at least 2 weeks ago) hence I've been unable to do what I love doing - draw! :/ Anyways, what really prompted me to share this - (and I hope you who read this will go check it right out!) - was the artist's techniques, which are practically the same as mine. Almost everyone has varying degrees of styles and methods in producing a portrait drawing, but I thought it was interesting that h

For those who have been watching my activities, I have 'switched' from drawing usual comic copyart to photorealistic portraits, and... it all began with SCANDAL's Rina Suzuki portrait. I must admit that while I am satisfied with some of these portraits, there are at least half of them, which have some flaws that bug me whenever I look at them. Nevertheless I hope to continue improving (and enjoy my recent discovery of using bristol paper!). Here's just a thought about certain people I hope to draw in the near future (in no particular order) when time permits: 1) Suzy Bae (Miss A) 2) Thor (Chris Hemsworth) 3) Tiffany (SNSD) 4) Ohima Yuko (AKB

Ack your drawings are amazing! Your level of realistic drawing is really cool.Clap  I do traditional drawings as well but I don't think they're good enough of deviant artSweating a little... , and yours is no doubt awesome!!  :squee:
Hello AyuZula! Thank you for the compliments. Improvement is always a possibility for anyone as long as there is determination and action on it. I use the grid method for proportions in my works and for colouring/blending, it's mostly through practice and trial and error. It's also important to believe in yourself before even starting on an artwork!
Oof I never actually considered using grid method Waaaah! Sweating a little... I'll try it.
and yeah practice is important but what I want to know is how do you
shade and do the hair so goooood????!!I think I've fainted. Waaaah! Waaaah! :happybounce: :happybounce: La la la la
If you meant smoothness in shading/blending, I started out just doing monochrome portraits for a long time, so just focusing on toning with one colour, before I moved on to colours and added just 2 or maximum 3 different colours.
For colouring hair with colour pencils, I work in segments, drawing strand by strand in detail by adding darker shadows and leaving highlighted areas uncoloured. For digital hair colouring, I work in layers, laying in darker colours first, before gradually using smaller brushes for highlights and shadows. When in doubt, there's always youtube for tutorials!

At the moment we are very few because it has just opened the group, but without a doubt we will grow and we will form a great community ... It would be an honor to have your presence in the group ... If you are interested, please sign up and you will be welcome...
